The Henry Miller Memorial Library presents
"Holiday with Hitch"
Dec. 10-14th at the Golden State Theatre* in Monterey
Tonight...the last one: Psycho
w/ an introduction by Luis Camara.
Does the stress and anxiety of the holidays get you down? Well the Henry Miller Memorial Library has an antidote: HOLIDAY WITH HITCH! That's right: five nights, five classic films Vertigo :Tuesday | North by Northwest: Wednesday | Rear Window: Thursday | Rebecca: Friday (the 13th!) | Psycho: Tonight ! Saturday Night from the Central Coast's adopted son, Alfred Hitchcock! Because nothing spells relief from the holiday doldrums than psychosis, sexual obsession, cold-blooded horror, and of course, Anthony Perkins.
On the heels of the successful Big Sur Short Film Finale, Reel Rock, and Big Lebowski screenings, we're going big: Five Nights of Classic Hitchcock Films, plus drinks, snacks, and selected guest speakers. Check back for updates on speakers and further Pinot Noir** pairings!
One fine bottle of Pinot Noir from Alfred Hitchcock's own Winery, Heart O' The Mountain,
will be raffled off each night. (Hitch owned it 1940-74)
Doors @ 7 PM
Introductions @ 7.30 PM
Film @ 7.45PM (or a bit later depending on length of intro!)
Tonight's intro by Luis Camara . Luis is the director of the horror-thriller STEEL TRAP and the independent Mexican film SILENCIO. His screenplay CIUDADES DESIERTAS is currently in production, starring Gael Garcia Bernal. He is an associate professor at California State University, Monterey Bay.
Your generous donation makes this possible. Thanks!
Psycho — Timeless classic. Superb performances and the infamous shower scene make this the perfect way to end this peculiar 'holiday...'
Thanks for joining us!
Nothing you see in a Monterey movie theatre all year can possibly come close to matching the experience of re-mastered* Hitchcock on the big screen. We are screening digitally remastered versions of the Master's greatest tales. If you have never seen Rebecca, or North By Northwest, or any of the other films for that matter, now's the time.
If your memories of these titles abound with images of scratchy prints or fuzzy video copies, it's time for a serious re-evaluation. Hitchcock, perhaps more than any other director, works best with an audience. Even if you know were the jumps occur in Rear Window, (or Psycho!) it's always fun to watch the newbies bounce around the theatre!
*Each film has been restored and remastered, vastly improving both audio and image.
* Yes, where does Alfred Hitchcock belong? On your plasma screen? At your local cineplex in the Mall?
No, of course not! Hitchcock belongs at the venerable and gorgeously creaky Golden State Theatre!
**Alfred Hitchcock was a well known wine lover - especially Pinot Noir (surprise!).
Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.
