WHAT IS THE HISTORIC GHOST HUNT TOUR OF ELGIN?
The Historic Ghost Hunt Tour of Elgin is a 5-hour bus tour to Elgin's most haunted cemeteries; where you actually hunt for ghosts along the way using authentic EMF "Ghost Meters", furnished for you at no extra charge.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
Parking is plentiful and free in the parking garage across the street from the Elgin Public House.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
Yes, bring any ghost hunting equipment you may have around the house, such as:
•Video and/or still camera (digital or film
•Flashlight (an absolute MUST!)
•Digital and/or tape recorder with microphone.
•EMF meter or compass to detect electrical fields (NOTE: we'll have EMF meters provided for your free use during the ghost hunt, but you may want to bring your own or buy one from us; $30 new, $25 used.
• Anything with nightvision, i.e. goggles, camera, etc.
• Dowsing rods
• Trigger objects to intrigue the spirits to interact with you. Use your imagination!
• Extra batteries
• Notebook and pen/pencil to write down any spooky weirdness that may happen during your Elgin ghost hunt.
• Nerves of steel.
• Comfy shoes or boots and appropriate clothing for the weather! It gets as cold as the grave out there. And don't forget the flashlight!
WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
IF WEATHER CONDITIONS (posted below) ARE NOT MET, THE TOUR WILL BE CANCELED AND WE WILL CONTACT YOU VIA EMAIL AND/OR PHONE BEFORE 3:00 PM. We base our weather-related decisions on the forecasts at WEATHER.COM. To check weather conditions for downtown Elgin, visit WEATHER.COM, enter zip code 60120, and click on the Hourly forecast for 8:00 PM.
TOURS WILL BE HELD UNDER THE FOLLOWING WEATHER CONDITIONS: If the weather at 8:00 PM is predicted to be above 45 degrees F, with winds less than 10 mph, and any rain or snow is indicated as "steady light" or "sporadic moderate", the tour will be held. Distant thunder and lightning is usually OK (even preferred!). Any night not meeting these weather conditions may be subject to rescheduling. WILL DIANE LADLEY PERSONALLY HOST MY GHOST TOUR?
Due to uncertain health, "America's Ghost Storyteller" is not always up to hosting...but she'll sure try to give as many tours as she can.
SHOULD I TIP THE TOUR GUIDE?
Gratuities to your Ghost Hunter Guide are encouraged if you don't want to be left behind in a haunted cemetery; but not required.
I'M LOST AND RUNNING LATE FOR MY GHOST TOUR!
You can call the HAUNTED HOTLINE at 630-212-0707 fifteen minutes before your departure time until fifteen minutes after; or the Elgin Public House at 847-468-8810.
DO I HAVE TO BRING MY TICKETS?
Yes. After registering, you will receive an email confirmation with tickets attached. Every member of your party will need a printed ticket.
I NEED TO CANCEL/UPDATE MY RESERVATION.
TO CANCEL OR CHANGE YOUR RESERVATION, GO TO EVENTBRITE.COM and click on the My Tickets link. Additional tickets may also be purchased at that time. Cancellations and changes may be made until 3:00 PM on the day of the tour without penalty. Any cancellations made after 3:00 PM may be subject to forfeiture.
CAN I BRING ALCOHOL AND FOOD ON THE TOUR?
Absolutely not. Our contract with the bus company will not allow any alcohol or food to be consumed in the vehicle. Violators will be immediately removed from the tour with no refunds.
CAN I BRING MY CHILDEN?
Due to the intense nature of this ghost hunt tour we do not allow anyone below the age of 16 unless accompanied by an adult at least 21 years of age. We are not responsible for any nightmares or trauma that children may experience during and after the tour.
ANY OTHER RULES I NEED TO KNOW?
No one is allowed to enter any cemetery or park, public or private, after posted hours. The City of Elgin has granted us access to these places so long as we show respect and consideration for these sacred resting places of the dead. Please obey your Ghost Host at all times. We reserve the right to immediately remove any disorderly guest from the tour with no refund ... or maybe we'll just leave you in there for the malevolent entities to chew on.
SHOULD WE EAT BEFORE OR AFTER THE TOUR?
We suggest that you dine beforehand and have drinks and dessert after the ghost hunt tour. The ELGIN PUBLIC HOUSE is your best choice, not only because we dearly depart from their sidewalk, but their food is GREAT! Conveniently located in the haunted heart of downtown Elgin: 219 E. Chicago St., Elgin, IL 60120, their hours are: Sat. 11 am - 11 pm (full menu), 2:00 am for limited menu, Sundays 10 am - 9:pm (full menu), midnight for limited menu.
WHAT'S THE REFUND POLICY?
Refunds are not available; instead we reschedule you or send a non-expiring gift certificate for a later tour in the amount you paid.
