Event Details

Hip-Hop: Race, Politics and Hyper-Masculinity” will explore deeper conversations of homo-eroticism, violence, objectivity of women and racial indifference throughout the hip hop community.

The cultural relevance to hip-hop is something that usually comes with a negative connotation. Through our event we hope to raise awareness not only to the musical context but to the community as a whole.

The panel will consist of educators, musicians, journalists and pop culture aficionados including
Anthony Gaskins, Jozen Cummings, LastO, Mic Sean, Jen Johnson, Brad Wete, Roy Paul, and Sowmaya Krishanamurthy.
They will engage in a stimulating conversation with our moderator - Eugene Lang Graduate, Brandice Taylor. Throughout the discussion there will be breaks for a question and answers.

Ideally, our plan is to reach out to all divisions of The New School, even at the graduate level to encourage them to not only participate in this lively event but to also come and mingle with fellow University students that love Hip-Hop.

Light food and beverages will be served beginning at 5PM.
