Event Details

Hello to all!

PLEASE NOTE: This listing is NOT for an actual event and the start/end dates are made up. The purpose of this is to help raise money so that I can get a proper college education and follow my dreams to become a nurse and help people. EVERY SINGLE penny counts, and even if you would only like to donate $1, I appreciate EVERYTHING that you find in your hearts to give me. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your generosity and for viewing my page. Even if you do not donate, I still wish you the best. THANK YOU!

To begin, my name is Thala. I am a 19 year old female (as of May 21st I will be 19). I currently reside in Wheaton, Illinois. I used to live with my parents in Batavia. The enviroment at my home in Batavia with my family was constantly stressful and a constant power struggle between my parents and I as we all have hard headded personalities. There was always fighting, for as many years as I can remember. I had plans to move out on my own, but I could not do so because I did not have the funds. I am self reliant when it comes to money and it has been many years since I have recieved financial help from my family. I have a job at Target, which I love, but I am only working minimum wage at about 20 hours a week (I recently got a 15 cent raise because they liked my workmanship!). I also have a used car, which I am currently paying off monthly that I got in November of 2012, so fairly recently. (18 more months to go and I'm done!) It's not the nicest car, but it runs well, and that's all I need.

I run an online store (pastelmorgue.storenvy.com) and sell my clothes and items I do not need on eBay (username thalaxlovee) whenever I can to try to pull in a little more money. I buy almost of my own food, my own clothing, and the only reason I have shelter and a place to stay right now is because my wonderful boyfriend and his family were kind enough to take me in (without me even asking, at that).

I am currently a freshman in college, and I have only taken one semester of school so far. I was forced to take time off so that I could afford to pay for my car and insurance in order to get to work to try to save money for myself. Saving money has ended up being one of the most difficult things with bills, buying food, paying for my car, paying for insurance, and paying for gas. Not to mention I recently fell seriously ill and had to be taken to the emergency room. Even after insurance, I cannot even describe how devastating that bill has been on me. Not to mention the frequent visits to doctors and specialists in order to diagnose my case. Luckily it was nothing major, but it was a very stressful and expensive month.

I graduated from Batavia High School in May 2012, the same month I turned 18. My first and so far only semester of college was at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL, which I started fall of 2012. I paid for this semester ($1,200) out of my own pocket (money I had made at a previous job as a sales associate at the Goodwill Ind. near me). This of course drained what little savings I had. I was lucky enough to have a brother who was willing to schedule his classes around my own in order to be able to drive me to college as well as himself because I did not have a car yet.

Waubonsee was a wonderful experience and I do not regret a single day of it. The only issue was that I originally wanted to be a social worker or child psychologist, but the councelors at Waubonsee put me in classes for Early Childhood Education.. meaning I had much knowledge in order to become a preschool teacher, but that would not help me much if I wanted to explore any other related fields.

My original goal in November of 2012 after I had gotten my car was to take one semester off in order to be able to pay for said car. I have been doing great with my monthly payments and I have never been late on paying my bill because of the amount of time I put into my job at Target. I am still hoping that I will be able to reach my goal of re starting school this summer or this fall at the latest. Unfortunately at the pace I am at, it is beginning to look like I may never be able to afford going back to school...

Which is what brings me to this website. I have recently looked into other schools and College of Dupage has recently caught my eye. My boyfriend went to this school, and it has a very distinguished (and apparently hard to get into) nursing program. I had an ACT score of 26, and my grade point average is around a 2.8. I never recieve anything lower than a high C, and anything lower than a low B is an extreme disapointment to me. I work my best to get the grades I think I deserve.

School is very important to me, and more than anything I would like to become a nurse so that I can help people who are ill and injured. I love helping people and my goal in life is to make things better for other people. If I just had the money to go through the schooling, I would be able to reach my dreams. It is very important to me that I get an education. I feel that knowledge is power, and without knowledge I will go nowhere in life. I would like to be a well functioning member of society and I would like to be able to give back to the community. I feel that by becoming a nurse I could do that.

Thank you very much for reading my story. There is so much that I was not able to cover (without making it even more long and boring, haha!), but if anyone has any questions whatsoever, feel free to email me at my personal email: thalaxlovee@gmail.com.

Just to clarify once more, this listing is NOT for an actual event and the start/end dates are just made up (actually the start date is on my birthday!).

Best regards,

Thala Hash

Please keep in mind that College of Dupage is not supporting me in any way financially, nor do they have any control or input in this page. I am purely adding them as my "host" for this page to show that this is where I will (hopefully if I can raise the funds!) be going to school.

Thank you for anything you can do to help me!
