Event Details

Come meet with our team at Acquia to learn about Drupal, a widely used content management system at the site of one of the Boston area's fastest growing start ups. In this workshop you'll get a good understanding of what Drupal is, and how it might be a perfect fit for you.

Curious about Drupal?

Drupal (pronounced drew-pull) is web development software written in a popular scripting language - PHP.

Drupal has both a point and click interface to allow people to put together websites with no programming experience; and also an API and framework for programmers to extend & develop unique applications. And it's all free- it's opensource; which is the one of the hottest job markets in technology right now.

Are you considering a career in open source web development, and want to find out about Drupal? Come visit the Acquia offices and learn about Drupal and the many careers available not only through us but our partners as well.

Ideal for:
  • Students exploring options for careers in web development, cloud computing and infrastructure, design, sales, marketing.
  • Career switchers looking to expand on their prior experience.
  • Self-starters who are curious and want to learn new skills that are in demand.
  • People with some prior experience of or knowledge of web development.

When and where?
On March 15th 2011- you will be assigned to one of the two 3 hour long sessions- depending on your prior experience. This will help us better prepare for you.
There will be a morning session, from 9:30am, and an afternoon session from 2:30pm. The training will be held in the same building as the Acquia offices, at 150 Presidential Way in Woburn, MA- a short walk from the train station

What will happen?
The 3 hour session will include a mix of practical activities, some presentations and Q & A sessions where you can talk to professional developers about their experience.

What to bring?

Please bring your own laptop. If you do not have a laptop available, please indicate it on the registration form, we will try our best to make other arrangements for you.

Why are we holding this event? Drupal is growing!

We're very proud of Drupal's growth, however, it does mean that companies and organizations are challenged to build their teams. Drupal's community has so many jobs available and not enough skilled candidates to fill them. This is a recognized problem not only for ourselves, but also our clients and partners.

Our partners include small boutique web development companies with distributed international teams, and larger established digital agencies.

Drupal users include government agencies (such as Whitehouse.gov, US House of Reps), media organizations (AlJazeera, The Nation, The Economist) , not-for-profits (Amnesty International, World Economic Forum) and many companies who are realizing the benefits of open source, see more at http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites  - This should be great news in an economy where students are concerned about finding meaningful, exciting careers with growth potential.

Because of this, at Acquia, we're working hard to grow Drupal talent. This is the first of many other events to be held here at our offices. Keep an eye out for free training events internationally too through our partners.
