Did you know nearly 1 in 2 women experience urinary incontinence? Dr. Jessica Fernanec will be chatting with you live, answering your questions about urinary incontinence on June 19th at noon.  Have you ever experienced the sudden urge to urinate at the most inconvenient time? How many times have you had to stop the car to run to the nearest gas station, leave the gym in the middle of a work out, or jump up in the middle of an important meeting to use the restroom? Only to come back, and experience it all over again!

Urge and frequency syndrome, is a common symptom of urinary incontinence and can be treated with many options available. Dr. Jessica Feranec, gynecologist at Florida Hospital says, “We commonly see the onset of urge incontinence in our older population but it can be seen in all ages. Urge and frequency may be the result of an overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis, medication induced, chronic poor bladder habits, spinal or neurologic issues, diabetes, prolapse, or atrophy.

Treatments are focused on the cause of the condition and can include medications, physical therapy and retraining of the bladder. Dr. Jessica Feranec says “If a patient has urgency frequency syndrome or urge incontinence, I refer them to physical therapy, start an overactive bladder medication, and in some cases prescribe a topical estrogen for vaginal atrophy. If or when a patient fails medications, neurostimulator therapy is the next option with excellent results.”

Ladies, it’s not necessary to let your bladder control your life anymore! It’s time to get back to your daily routine, without running to the restroom numerous times throughout the day.
