The Hawaii Social Media Summit comes to The Neal Blaisdell Center this year on October 17th!
This annual event is part of the Technology Expo for Business and Consumers, on October 17 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
ALL attendees will get access to our Startup Corner, the Shark Tank sessions as well as the expos gaming, technology and career sections. Lunch is included in your ticket, so join us for a day of Social Media!
The Social Media Summit will share best practices and insights on developing and implementing large-scale social marketing and advertising strategy. This year’s event will focus on the latest in social media trends, with speaking sessions by several of the nation’s most talented social media experts, including two of the social media gurus from Forbes’ list of the Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers, Mike O’Neil and Lori Ruff.
O’Neil and Ruff, better known as the “LinkedIn Rockstars,” follow a proven LinkedIn business methodology that will guide their audience through the essential ins and outs of LinkedIn, especially for sales and business development.
Other scheduled speakers include Susan Tenby-Online Community and Social Media Director at TechSoup, Kimanzi Contstable-author who has self-published two eBooks and sold over 45,000 copies. Hi sessions will teach you the best way to truly connect with people through the power of your story.
You will also get to see last year’s Top 15 Social Media Award winners Rob Bertholf and Tara Coomans participate in the Content Camp track with amazing panels including local social media talents, and representatives from the Hawaii Social Media Training Institute.

Topic: Twitter 201: You can tweet… now what? Creating a Twitter account is only the first step in creating a strong brand presence on Twitter. The next step is to customize your Twitter page so that it becomes instantly recognizable to your supporters. With all of the tools that Twitter offers it is now even easier to communicate your message, track, analyze, and determine the next phase of your organization’s outreach strategy.
In this session we will cover the following:
· Customizing your Twitter account profile (images, information, background image, etc.)
· How to tweet with the proper Twitter lingo and attributes (#, DM, @, RT)
· Utilizing measurement tools so your organization can track, monitor, test, adjust, and plan its Tweets accordingly
· Strategic use of hashtags
· Using tags to serendipitously find your community and leverage the power of your network
·Using third party twitter dashboards to effectively listen to the buzz of your network
Participants will walk away with advanced tools to use Twitter more effectively.
Susan Tenby has worked in nonprofit online community management for 12 years and has been active in social media since 2006. In her current position, Online Community and Social Media Director at TechSoup, she runs weekly online campaigns and speaks regularly at conferences about online communities, distributed teams, social media & virtual worlds. Driving the organization's twitter account and social media strategy, she teaches twitter best practices at conferences and webinars to partners and internal/external stakeholders. Previously, as Online Community Manager at TechSoup, Susan was responsible for launching the organization's entire social media presence and has been a thought leader in how to use social media for 6 years. Under her leadership, TechSoup’s Twitter account has grown 40% over the past year, and she’s considered a twitter expert in both the nonprofit and independent sectors. Susan was responsible for launching the organization's community forums which has an active membership of 75,000 nonprofit members and organizes and runs a monthly online community and social media meetup for professional community and social media managers. Susan currently serves as Social Media advisor for many organizations, most interestingly, the all-girl rock band, The Go-Go’s. She earned her BA in Literature from USF and a her MA in Lit from SFSU.
