New Student Orientation
Student Orientation is loaded with information that you need to know since we want to do all we can to help get you started on a path to success. During the orientation process you can expect to:
Learn about education and career goals and how the academic plan you choose must align with them
Learn about academic requirements needed to graduate
Learn about the many student services that are available to help you succeed
Learn about student clubs, groups and organizations
Meet other new students and make new friends
Determine if you need to attend Orientation.
If you have MORE than 15 college credits from an accredited college/university to transfer you can waive orientation; however when you come to campus you must bring transcripts to verify the credits.
Determine if you need to take the COMPASS/ Placement Exam.
Students with a “C” or better in college level English and Math may be exempt from the Placement Test. Students must submit official college transcripts.
Students with current ACT scores may be exempt from the Placement Test. Students must submit official ACT scores.

How to get to Harold Washington College:
By public transit: Several transit routes run adjacent to the college including: the CTA Blue Line, Red Line, Brown Line, Green Line, Orange Line, Pink Line, and Purple Line, as well as the CTA bus #2, 10, 29, 124, 146, 148. http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_information/trip_planner.aspx
By bike: Bike racks are available at the entrance of the college on Lake Street.
By car: Cars access the college from Lake Street. There is no parking onsite, but the Wabash-Randolph Self Park Garage at 20 E. Randolph provides discounted parking to Harold Washington College students and visitors. Be sure to ask for parking validation from the Harold Washington College Security Desk before leaving the college to take advantage of the discount.
The session begins promptly at 9am. Please allow time for navigating the building and check in.
