We are the cast, crew, creative team, and producers of the NYU/GAP production of The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. We are all current students at NYU/Tisch School of the Arts for Drama, training in acting, directing, design, stage management, producing and more. Through the GAP program, which allows two selected shows a chance to put on a fully student-produced and student-created production, we are taking on the big one: Hamlet.
Though we are sticking to the script (with only minimal cuts) and are paying close attention to the story and the verse, the world of our play is both fantastical and complex.
This production is going to start in present day, New York City, and conclude in 16th-century Denmark. Scene by scene we will go further back in time, highlighting the dual directions between past and future in which time is always relentlessly moving.
This means 20 TIME PERIODS...
...With 20 different types of costumes...
...Props from 20 eras...
