Hackthink: Rethink Learning
Friday, April 22, 2011 at 5:30 PM - Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 9:00 PM (EDT)
Make Learning Amazing Together
HackThink is an idea conference and entrepreneurial competition for "hacking" the experience and practice of education in a very fast changing world. Spend a weekend meeting amazing people while you learn to model + build innovative solutions that blur the line between institutional education and day to day learning. Come hack, learn, network, and make a difference.
How It Works
Friday April 22nd:
We will start the weekend on Friday afternoon with a short series of talks highlighting the most disruptive trends in education today:
A Class Without Walls: Why 3d fabrication + mobile computing will radically change where we learn.
Gaming The System: How incentives and gaming combine to flip the classroom.
We will finish off the first night with an introductory party over snacks and drinks. This is a great chance for you to meet and brainstorm with the people you will want on your team for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday April 23rd:
The hacking begins! Teams will join together early in the morning to decide on the best ideas to model and what to build for Sunday's presentations.
There will be more educational talks sprinkled throughout the day, including:
The Education Bubble: We are in a bubble but it's not housing, startups, or easy credit this time. What can we do about ever spiraling costs at a time when the value of institutional education as we know it is less clear every day?
Intro to 3d Design: A class for anyone who wants to learn how to create customized products in 3d.
Sunday April 24th:
It's time to turn your hacks into presentations. Get your team ready for the judges by Sunday afternoon!
