HackRVA - DB 101 - Database Design Essentials
Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (EDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Clint Grimsley will teach the basics of database modelling and design and how to use some of the useful tools and technologies surrounding the arcane language that is SQL.
Clint's currently planning on centering this class around either PostgreSQL or MySQL, using MySQL Workbench or one of the many modelling applications found at http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/GUI_Database_Design_Tools if there's enough voiced opinions favoring PostgreSQL.
Suggestions are welcome for how to facilitate this class. Email Clint at firstname.lastname@example.org for things you'd like to know but never thought to ask, opinions over which open source database server technology you'd like to learn about, and which tools have confused or confounded you over time.
- Bring your laptop! (we have one or two spares, but not many)
- If you don't run Linux daily (uh... why would you not?) we can get you up and running on a Live CD version of Linux, or set up a shell account on an in-house Linux server.
- Lunch will be next door at the Dairy Bar, or your own arrangements.
- A light breakfast will be provided, as well as refreshments throughout the day
