Event Details

hackaway is bringing electronics education to the Bay Area - Peninsula and South Bay!

This class meets every Saturday from September 6 until December 20, 2014 (excluding Thanksgiving weekend).

Saturdays: 10 - 11:30 AM

Class Days: 9/6, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 12/6, 12/13, 12/20

This class is open to all middle school and high school students (grades 5 - 12). This class provides instruction in the principles of electronics prototyping and programming. Using the Arduino microcontroller platform, students will engage in hands-on projects and engaging lessons. Every lesson includes time to build a circuit and program its functionality.

- Building circuits on breadboards
- Connecting circuits to the Arduino
- Writing code for the Arduino
- Uploading code to the Arduino
- Debugging code for the Arduino

- LED light show
- Building a automatic night light
- Push-button games (racing game, guessing game, etc)
- Programming a stopwatch

Every student will be provided with the necessary attention and instruction to learn. Every student will also be given access to the devices necessary to program the hardware and learn the material. At the end of the course, each student will receive $50-$100 in hardware that they keep, so that they can continue to create, innovate, and review the material.

hackaway's mission is to provide affordable classes to all demographics of students. We do not want any one to be excluded from the opportunity to take our courses. That being said, it takes money to run our courses and we keep them extremely affordable for what our students receive -- our classes are a great value. For instance, every student receives 15-20 hours of small group instruction, access to laptops/computers, and approximately $75 of electronics hardware to keep at the end of each course/module. That's why we ask for $400 per student per module. It allows us to provide top-tier, sustainable electronics education to all students, regardless of their demographics or socio-economic status. Please pay what you can.
