GW@AERA: Dr. Michael McPherson
Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Dr. Michael McPherson, Spencer Foundation
Dr. Michael McPherson will join us to discuss links between economic and educational inequality. Using the book Whither Opportunity, edited by Greg Duncan and Richard Murnane, as a framework for discussion, McPherson will examine how the forces of rising inequality affect the educational attainment and life chances of low-income children. McPherson wrote the foreword for Whither Opportunity, in which a panel of distinguished economists, sociologists, and experts in social and educational policy examine the corrosive effects of unequal family resources, disadvantaged neighborhoods, insecure labor markets, and worsening school conditions on K-12 education. He is the fifth president of the Spencer Foundation and an internationally recognized economist and philosopher of education.
