Experience traditional Guinea dance, music and song with two dynamic master instructors for two days*!
From the Broadway, award winning musical "FELA!", master dancer/singer ISMAEL 'BONFILS' KOUYATE and from the world famous national ballet of Guinea, Les Ballet Africains, master drummer MAMADOUBA “MITO” CAMARA invite you to join them in an intensive structured like a boot camp for students, performers and professionals. Our distinguished guest instructors will cover the song, dance and music disciplines of Guinea with a focus on technique, history, stamina, style and syncopation. Each day will include sessions focused on preparing participants for the creation of choreography, musical arrangement, performances and strengthening the paths on our varying dance & drum journeys. Join us in Houston, Texas at The Movement Lab to build your Guinea-style dance and music repertoire. Work alongside other instructors and avid students of this craft and embrace an opportunity like no other in a professional intimate setting.
The Weekend Intensive is a two day, 8 1/2 hour series of sessions where students of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to embark on a new skill or enhance a present skill. The intensive has both a lecture/Q&A and music/movement component. YES, everyone will participate is every session! All participants will learn history and foundation of their respective area of study followed by execution. This intensive will cater to African dancers and drummers with an intermediate to advanced skill level. Attendees must have the rudimentary skills associated with traditional African dance including but not limited to combinations, polyrhythmic movement, and basic coordination.
We will have four 2 hour sessions. Our final session includes a master class, at no charge to the intensive participants, and will be open to the community at charge.

Texas based cultural dance company, KoumanKe’le’ African Dance & Drum Ensemble, is a dynamic and energetic performance troupe that presents traditional West, South, and Central African Dance and culture and its transitions in this country.
We want to reconnect current and future generations to the history and traditions of the Diaspora, along with its transitions and current applications through dance, drum and culturally educated performances and presentations.
