George LutherWhen: Every Wednesday and the fourth Saturday of each month, from November through April... (A few additional dates - Tuesday April 15 and Thursday April 24 are being added due to high demand)

Join award-winning CREW Land & Water Trust volunteer and naturalist, George Luther, for an entertaining and informative 3-hour guided walk on a portion of the Bird Rookery Swamp trails near Naples, FL.

George is a master storyteller and devoted CREW volunteer and will lead these hikes every Wednesday and the fourth Saturday each month, November through April.

The Bird Rookery Swamp Trail is part of the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed (owned by the South Florida Water Management District). It includes a 1500 ft. boardwalk and nearly 12 miles of raised trails on old railroad trams.

The cypress/maple swamp is home to wading birds, owls, deer, bear, panther, bobcat, limpkins, and much more.

Be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and clothing, bring water to drink. Sunscreen/hat are advisable. Cameras and binoculars are optional.

"PLEASE NOTE!!! Vultures may be attracted to rubber including linings on car doors and windows...hanging plastic shopping bags from the top of your door frames or covering your car with a tarp secured with bungee straps may deter them."

Limited to 24 hikers. If you cannot attend the hike for which you register, please call 239-657-2253 or request a cancellation here on this site at least 24 hours before the walk is scheduled to begin.

CREW Land & Water Trust

The CREW Land & Water Trust was established in 1989 as a nonprofit organization to coordinate the land acquisition, land management, and public use of the 60,000-acre Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed. We work closely with our partners, the South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to ensure the protection of the watershed. This watershed, the largest intact watershed in south Florida, straddles Lee and Collier Counties and provides aquifer recharge, natural flood protection, water purification, preservation of wildlife habitat, and public recreation.  CREW's majestic 5,000-acre marsh is the headwaters for the entire watershed.
