Event Details

It is time to start treating client-side JavaScript web applications with the same types of organization, structure, and automation tools seasoned programmers have been employing in server-side frameworks for decades.
This workshop will go over some new tools to bring some order to the usual chaos of client side web application development.
bower: A Twitter project aiming to do for client-side JavaScript packages what npm, pip, pecl, cpan, gem, and others do for their respective languages. No more commuting a bunch of third party libraries into your project and hoping they all play nice together, and  continue to when you overwrite them with new versions.
Grunt: The automation workhorse that can be thought of as the Makefile + task runner suite of JS projects. Learn how to integrate automation of powerful development tools, debugging, compression, source mapping, and other tools into your project and workflow.
yo: A Google project that aims to be a scaffolding helper for initializing a new boilerplate for a project in the framework of your choice, complete with grunt tasks to get you going with built in web serving, livereload, and other invaluable development tools you will never want to do without again. Built for integration with bower and Grunt from day one.
