Bring beauty and food to your table! Grow your own grains, and find that perfect harmony of which grains you can grow in your garden space and cook in your kitchen. Choose from a wonderful and incredible variety of grains like amaranth, quinoa, sorghum, teff, and millet. You will be reintroduced to the more familiar grains of wheat, barley, oats, triticale and rye. Learn how to grow, thresh, winnow, mill, cook and eat all of these. To better understand their importance to society, learn the history and ancestral stories of these grains. —Class includes break with special samples of homemade bread, grain salad and muffins, made from Golden Rule-grown grains.
Ellen has a family emergency. Luke Howerter agreed to teach this class. a former a Ecology Action staff, will be teaching this class. He studied with Ellen and made grains one of his specialties.
Assisting will be Fernanda Ramos Diaz, a MESA steward spending her second growing season working with Ellen.
