Green LA Confidential
Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT)
Los Angeles, CA
Dear Green LA Member/Friend/Ally,
We would be honored if you would join us at Green LA Confidential on August 4, 2012, as we host an evening of improv and storytelling featuring LA’s environmental leaders, at 7:00 pm at The Last Bookstore in downtown Los Angeles.
This night promises to be an original fund- and ally-raising event. Jill Bourque, a highly acclaimed comedian, improviser and producer, will direct Green LA Confidential with a cast of Green LA members. The interactive show will compellingly portray Green LA’s important advocacy work and will demonstrate why the Green LA Coalition is the city’s go to environmental organization. Join us as we honor Paula A. Daniels, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s senior policy advisor and the founding chair of the Los Angeles Food Policy Council.
Your tax-deductible donation (via your ticket purchase) will go directly towards covering the costs of this first-of-its-kind event, and to support Green LA’s mission to transform Los Angeles into a just and sustainable city. We look forward to seeing you on August 4 at The Last Bookstore!

Paula Daniels is Senior Advisor to the Mayor of Los Angeles specializing in food and water policy, She took this position in the summer of 2011 after six years as a Los Angeles Public Works Commissioner, where she developed a number of Green Infrastructure initiatives, including a Low Impact Development Ordinance. She has been actively engaged in California environmental policy issues for over 20 years, when she first became involved with Heal the Bay, an environmental group whose mission is to improve and protect Southern California coastal waters and beaches. Daniels was also commissioner with the California Coastal Commission, and a gubernatorial appointee on the governing board of the California Bay-Delta Authority. She founded the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, a policy based collaborative of food system leaders working toward an environmentally sustainable, equitable and regionally based food system.
Jill Bourque is a highly-acclaimed stand-up comedian, improvisor, and producer–all necessary skills for raising two boys and one husband. Now she brings down the house with her absurdly smart and edgy comedy. Jill’s comedy brings audiences into her hilarious world of modern mayhem and off-kilter characters. She’s performed her unique style of improvisational stand-up comedy in clubs, festivals, and theaters all over the country. Credits include Marines’ Memorial Theatre, SF Sketchfest, Chicago Improv Festival, Los Angeles Improv Festival, San Franciso Improv Festival and many more.
The Last Bookstore began in 2005 in a downtown loft as an online business, growing quickly along with the revival of downtown LA. When a small location at 4th and Main opened in 2009, they officially opened their doors to the public. The community turned out with overwhelming support, selling their used books to the bookstore, as it was one of the last places in LA still buying books. Inventory overflowed the shelves, and in 2011, The Last Bookstore moved to its current 10,000 sq. ft location at 5th and Spring St. The name was chosen with irony, but it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy as physical bookstores are dying out like dinosaurs from the meteoric impact of Amazon and e-books. The Last Bookstore hopes to thrive in downtown LA’s vibrant new community. Join the cause! Buy, sell, trade, and above all, read real books… before they’re gone.
