Event Details

In May 2012, the first-ever Great Salt Sprint took place. This was a multi-city event, hosted in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. The day-long community sprint focused on adding Salt features and closing issues. The locations were connected primarily via Google Hangout, as well as via IRC, GitHub and the mailing list. The first Sprint fostered friendships and even spawned a friendly rivalry between locations. The event was very successful, and boosted the Salt community immensely.

The next Great Salt Sprint will be held on Saturday, July 27 (Friday, July 26 in Paris) at multiple locations in various cities around the world. Sprint objectives include:

  • More Salt support for OpenStack, specifically HP Cloud, Rackspace, Quantum, Swift, Glance, and Nova;
  • Populate the Salt formulae (state) repository;
  • Develop more Salt monitoring modules and runner alerts;
  • Create more test coverage.

SaltStack will be one location host at our headquarters in Salt Lake City. Also, we have reached out to dozens of members of the Salt community to host the Sprint at other locations in many cities around the world. These new, additional locations will be updated below as they are confirmed.

Attendee registration is mandatory if you plan to participate in the Sprint from a physical host location.

If you do not plan to join us at a host location, but plan to participate virtually instead, we'd appreciate a "Virtual participant" registration but it is not necessary. The registration process simply collects your name and email address.

As part of the Sprint, we plan to run a friendly inter-office and individual code-contribution competion. If you would like to participate in the competition please provide your GitHub username as part of the registration process so we can build a scoreboard. Participation in the Sprint does not mandate participation in the competition.

Contact us: sprint@saltstack.com. More information is also available at the Great Salt Sprint website.
