Description

Talk Description:

You have probably finished your school a while ago and learned that graphite was a dull black material used in pencils.

But the independent sheets of Graphene which it is made of, has turned a lot of heads and the scientist are now running out of superlatives to describe this material:

It’s the strongest, lightest, thinnest and best conductive "stuff" ever found. The extreme and peculiar properties of Graphene has a staggering potential for new technology.

Join Pragya as she highlights the origin and properties of this wondrous material and get to know how this could lead our technology to a new "Graphene Age".

Speaker Bio:

Pragya is a Product Development Engineer at Intel and was a passionate student at the University of CA, Santa Barbara.

Her research interest in Graphene still continues and she wishes to share some of her learnings with people who are obsessed with new technology.

Prior to her MS at UCSB, she was a Research Scientist in India, where her major areas of focus were “Graphene-CNT hybrid Transparent Conductors and Quantum dots Solar cells”,

“Research and Development on Solar Cells”, “Nanowires - Growth, fabrication and characteristics for Silicon Solar Cells”, “Micromorph Solar Cell Technology and Scope for Nano Materials in Solar Cells”

Thrive-WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) focuses on retaining the accomplished, driven and stellar women in Engineering and Science in the tech industry through technical and behavioral programs. We seek to drive a seismic shift in the workplace cultures to help women achieve success in their careers.

Since 2009, Thrive-WiSE has led the way to address the dropout rate of senior women engineers and technologists. In 2019, we expanded our programs to include technical Product, Program, and Project Managers. In 2020, we are expanding to offer our Safe Space Program (vetted for five years) and our unique Ally Training for Engineers and PMs to corporations to address systemic issues in the workplace and make results-driven progress on our mission.
