Event Details

This interactive online workshop will help you to design grading rubrics that fit your writing assignments and help students to understand your evaluation of their work. We will offer models of rubrics for a variety of writing situations and methods for offering constructive feedback that helps your students.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between formative and summative feedback and determine when to use each when responding to student writing.
  • Identify types of rubrics and select the rubric type appropriate for a given assignment.
  • Create a rubric that provides students with meaningful and efficient feedback on their writing.

Please have an assignment that you would like to work with on hand.

The workshop will be held on Google Hangouts and broadcast live on YouTube. The first eight participants to sign up will join the facilitators on Google Hangouts. Those watching on YouTube will be able to submit questions and comments and partake in group activities using Google Drive. A Google+ account, which gives you access to both Google Hangouts and Drive, is required to participate.

Facilitated by Matthew Pearson (University Center for Writing-based Learning) and Jen O’Brien (Office for Teaching, Learning and Assessment).
