Talk: "Scrum, Kanban, SAFe and DSDM in one company! Are you crazy?

All four Agile approaches in combination in one company!  What a radical thought, especially with the fearsome flames of the agile methodology wars!
It all started with Scrum versus Scrum. Then Scrum versus Kanban. Then everybody against DSDM. And finally late last year things escalated with the global take-up of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
Sadly dogmatic Agilistas continue to see just one (or two) of the four approaches as the solution to everyones’ problems. Despite the fact that no single one can be the silver bullet.
Yet despite this dogmatism, Agile and Lean has made a massive difference to people’s lives. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of IT professionals and hobbyists benefit daily from these approaches. So we must put our ego to one side and remember that the approaches are not about a particular methodology: They are about people and results.
By putting people and results first we can illustrate in this session why, how and where all four approaches (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe & DSDM) are applicable. Incredibly we will see that a particular type of organization should consider all four!
To support this discussion, we will examine different types of organization, each with their own set of characteristics. For each we will explore which approaches would be the most appropriate now and in the future plus risks.

Short Bio: Matthew Caine

Matthew CaineWhat motivates Matthew is simple: “When done well, Agile approaches make a difference to people’s lives, for the better because Agile organisations allow their people to go home satisfied, fulfilled having contributed.

Matthew brings 25+ years of experience from across the IT sector. He has worked at software companies such as Avaloq and Infonic. He was also a senior consultant for 10 years at Logica, based in London, Zürich, Berlin and Geneva. In between he was also worked at Swiss Re in Zurich and New York.
After introducing Infonic to Agile methods, Matthew founded M.C. Partners & Associates where he has experienced 15 organisations in different sectors adopt all four approaches. He is also the Managing Director of the Agile Academy Switzerland.
Originally, he studied Computer Science at the University of Staffordshire in England. He is a member of the DSDM Consortium, Scrum Alliance and is a volunteer in the PMI Swiss-Chapter. He is also core team member of both the SwissICT’s “Lean, Agile & Scrum” team and “Stoos Network Zurich” movements. In addition, he is a founding member of the Swiss Agile Leaders Circle and a director of the Zurich Clinic.
When he is not public speaking on the theme of people and agility, he can be found in a wild remote corner of Scotland following his life-long passion of fishing.
