The Gorilla Doctors of Africa
Did you know that
...mountain gorillas are critically endangered?
...these great apes share 98.5% of their genes with humans?
...the greatest threat to them are poachers and human-borne illnesses?
The Gorilla Doctors is an international team of dedicated veterinarians working tirelessly to increase the mountain gorilla population through life-saving medical care. Operating in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gorilla Doctors believes in a "One Health" approach - that the health of the gorillas, their environment, and the people living around the national parks are all inextricably linked. Our programs aim to bolster the health of not only the critically endangered mountain and Grauer's gorillas, but of the people working and living near the national parks. Caring for people and animals in this way, we strive to empower Africans to become future wildlife leaders.
