Come join Social Media Club - Los Angeles on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd from 7-9:30pm as we discuss the topic of Google Analytics! Thus far, we have:

John Shiple, CTO, Ultralive

General John Shiple - Technology and Weapons Development, CTOJohn Shiple, one of L.A.'s most sought after CTO's, has been blowing up the Internet going back to the birth of the web itself. He was a founding member of HotWired's engineering team - the web's first commercial website. Thereafter, he went on to re-architect the GeoCities front-end (then, the fourth largest site on the Internet) where he brought pop-up ads to the Internet (yes, it's his fault). John then went on to cofound Bigstep.com, an award-winning small business service provider.

At Bigstep, John designed, built and launched its initial service in six months to support over 300,000 customers and over 50 co-branded partners. He staffed and managed a highly-effective team of engineers, information architects, designers, web developers, usability analysts, editors and writers. Bigstep.com was sold to Affinity Internet in 2002 for approximately $8,000,000.After leaving Bigstep.com, John rebuilt the intranet and extranet systems for the Hilton Hotels Corporation (supporting 80,000+ people) from the ground up and developed the foundation for the company's large-scale data integration strategy.

Prior to cofounding Startup Army, John was CTO of Mota Motors - a VC funded startup and one of Business Week's Top 50 Most Promising Startups of 2009. John's patented technology there provides a new and better way to sell or buy a used car online. Linked into every major automotive marketplace, it makes transactions faster, safer and more profitable for private parties.

John is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with a degree in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, and he worked at the MIT Media Lab. He is an active member of the LA CTO Forum and is responsible for the architectural design and development oversight of all of Startup Army's weapons of mass acceleration.

Alex Becker, Co-Founder and President, Highly Relevant

Alex began his online journey in 2004 working as an Affiliate and Product Manager for a pair of multi-million dollar affiliate programs. He made his transition into full-time SEO and Social Media Marketing in 2008 after he met Rex while they both worked at DONE! SEO. In addition, Alex was also previously the Interactive Content and SEO Manager for Spine-Health.com; a position that was formerly held by Ben Parr, Co-Editor of Mashable.

Alex’s product and conversion marketing experience combined with Rex’s SEO expertise make Highly Relevant a special Digital Marketing company. Alex graduated with a BA from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2006. For more information on Alex, please check out his company, www.highlyrelevant.com. 

Andrew Hahn,  Luxury Link and Familygetaway.com

Andrew has been involved in all things online since he ran his first BBS in 1993.  He joined Luxury Link in 2008 and now oversees all aspects of SEM, SEO, e-mail, social media, and affiliate marketing for LuxuryLink.com and the newly launched FamilyGetaway.com. Using insights gained from analytics, he increased ROI from a mature online marketing program by nearly 30% in one year. 

Before joining Luxury Link, Andrew was a freelance web developer creating custom CRM and CMS applications. He has also served as a consultant for small to medium-sized businesses looking to create in-house online marketing programs. 

Andrew studied Cognitive Science at UCLA, applying research from the field to help achieve online marketing success. He also served 6 years in the Marine Corps Reserve as a WMD Specialist. 



and Erica Forrette, Online Marketing / E-commerce with a stealth startup will be moderating this event.  

Erica Forrette has worked in the online marketing industry since 1999 and has experience on the brand side, the vendor side, and the agency side.  She is currently overseeing online marketing efforts & analytics for Internships.com.  Previously, she handled a variety of ad hoc projects as an online marketing consultant for lead gen & ecommerce web sites. These projects included building out key site performance dashboards, creating and managing PPC campaigns, ad copywriting, and developing online strategies using metrics analysis & on-site research. Prior to her independent consultant role, Erica was Senior Manager, Online Acquisition for PacSun.com where she oversaw the team managing PacSun’s acquisition marketing, including PPC, SEO, e-mail, affiliates, Amazon, behavioral ads, and display ads. As part of this role, Erica also acted as the in-house consultant for PacSun.com's analytics program. Prior to PacSun, she was Director of Marketing for Adapt Technologies, an SEM management software firm (now WebVisible). Prior to Adapt, Erica was in an agency role at SiteLab International as the Online Marketing Director. Early in her career she also managed site promotions for a digital music download site, newspaper ads at a traditional ad agency, and promotional tie-ins at a major movie studio.
