Event Details

Celebrate Guatemala’s Independence Day with authentic food, music and guest speakers. Keynote address by Cónsul General de Guatemala en Atlanta, Rosa Maria Mérida de Mora. Born and raised in Guatemala, Ms Rosa Maria has served as a diplomat for over 25 years serving most recently in Buenos Aires and New York. She will share important facts about the Guatemalan population in southeast US, as well as cultural insights from her homeland.

Featuring social entrepreneur and founder of Coleccion Luna, Stephanie Jolluck. A social entrepreneur, Ms. started Coleccion Luna in 1999 to focus on women’s empowerment, alleviating poverty, preserving tradition, sustainability, and promoting cultural diversity and understanding. Coleccion Luna works with a women’s co-op located on the shores of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala to create beaded jewelry, hand woven textiles, bags, belts and more. 

Authentic Guatemalan menu at family-run restaurant, El Quetzal includes Tostadas con guacamole and frijoles, Pepian de Pollo, Jocon w/ pork, Chile Rellenos (Vegetarian); Beets & Palm Salad Ensalada, Arroz, Frijoles, Mole con platanos fritos & rellenitos de platanos. Non-alcoholic beverages include Horchata & Tamarindo. Note: The restaurant does not have a liquor license, but you can BYOB. 

Ticket includes buffet dinner, speaker and music. Free parking. Portion of proceeds benefit Go Eat Give, 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organization that raises awareness of different cultures through travel, food and community service.

What is the mission of the Destination Dinner?

The aim of Go Eat Give Destination Dinners is to increase awareness of the diverse cultures that exisit in our neighborhood. Our mission is to bridge the gap between communities living in Atlanta & around the world. By bringing authentic cuisine, engaging speakers & native artists together, we want you to have an enjoyable evening that involves experiential learning. Go Eat Give connects people, places & palates through travel, food & community service. 

How long does the event last?
We start prompty at 7pm with networking & cash bar. Once everyone gets here, we will serve dinner. Speaker & entertainment will follow right after. The event will last until 9:30 or 10pm. 

Can you accomodate dietery restrictions?
We are happy to provide you a vegetarian option if you let us know in advance. All our dinners are served buffet or family-style so you can choose to eat whatever you like.

Can I pay at the door?
We prefer that you purchase your tickets online, in advance so we can plan better. Generally, our events have a maximum capacity & tend to sell out. Sometimes tickets may be available at the door. 
 
Will I be able to order my own food?
No, the purpose of Destination Dinner is to expose you to traditional cuisine that you may not be familiar with, therefore selections are already made by our team of dining experts. We often provide many choices so you can sample a variety of dishes. 

Can I order more food or make it to-go?
Yes, you are welcome to order extra food or take out as long as you pay for it directly to the restaurant. We ask that you leave the left overs for our volunteers.

If this is a fundraiser, where does the money go?
The funds raised through Destination Dinners support Go Eat Give's mission to increase cultural awareness in Atlanta & around the world, such as co-op farms, women's safe houses & village schools. The cost of your tickets help pay for food, venue, marketing, staffing & the ongoing administration cost of creating enriching programs every month. 

Is the cost of ticket tax-deductible?
According to IRS, the value of the event is much more than the ticket price, as it involves a multiple course dinner, education & entertainment. If you made a donation to Go Eat Give (in addition to your ticket price), that is 100% tax deductible. 

Do you offer refunds?
Full refunds will be given only if you cancel 24 hours before the event starts. 

What if I'm coming by myself?
Go Eat Give events are a great place to meet internationally minded diverse group of individuals living in Atlanta. Natives from the theme country are also invited to share their insights of the culture. We encourage you to take this opportunity to network & make new friends.

Is the event suitable for kids?
Yes, as long as your kids are old enough to experience a sit-down cultural program. 

Do I need to bring a paper ticket?
Help us save trees & don't print tickets. We will have your name on the guest list when you check in. 

How can I be notified of the next event?
Sign up for our newsletter at www.goeatgive.com & select "Atlanta events" so you will recieve invitations for future events. Destination Dinners are held once every month.
