Event Details

 The Go Bootcamp is a one-day free event to introduce the Go programming language to programmers coming primarily from a web programming background (dynamic languages such as Ruby, Python, JS... but is open to all).

The event organized by Splice and Pivotal Labs will be a mixed of short lectures (20 minutes max) and group/pair exercises. We are honored to have special guests, well known OSS developers, including Fransec Campoy (Go team), Mitchell Hashimoto (Vagrant, Packer..), Jeremy Saenz (Martini web framework) who will help the group by sharing their knowledge, experience and pair program with you.

Purpose of the event:

  • Introduce Go to developers with a background in web development using dynamic programming languages 
  • Grow the Go community in Southern California


Expected outcome:


  • pros/cons of static typing in Go
  • what makes Go unique
  • what is Go particularly good at
  • what are the challenging parts of Go


  • know how to do data modeling with Go
  • know to or organize code in packages
  • know how to test code
  • know how to write documentation
  • know how to use json marshaling
  • know how to build a web API
  • know to to test a web API
  • know how to cross compile
  • know how to deploy
  • know the key go tools


  • value the potential of the Go language
  • can argue when to use Go vs using “legacy language”
  • consider using Go for a future project
