1pm - 2:30pm - Saturday Afternoon will be another hour and half long workshop:

Exciting stage make-up class:

You look like a million bucks in that expensive costume you just bought…. Now your face has to match! Well-done stage make-up will enhance your features and hide your flaws. We will go over a step-by-step make-up “map”, getting your face ready for performance. Learn how to apply false eyelashes like a seasoned pro! Also: tips for photographic make-up (both color and black and white) and tricks for fantasy fun, like going wild with glitter, bindis and color. A clearly illustrated “face map” and notes are included. Tissues and make-up remover will be on hand at the class, however if you have specific needs, please bring what you need to use. Arrive with a well-scrubbed face, leave as a goddess! This is a great opportunity for those of you who are looking for ways to put on makeup and look fabulous on stage, or even to see and try out a new look that you might have been wanting to try. Let's not forget to also learn how to put on those ever so elusive false eyelashes!

2:30pm - 4pm - The second afternoon class workshop is Princess Farhana’s:

Strike A Pose” How to make the camera love you!

No matter what style of dance you perform, you need great promotional photos, and this workshop gives you the tools for looking amazing in front of the camera! From head shots to full body poses, learn tips and tricks to achieve beautiful body lines and interesting angles, highlight your assets and hide your flaws. We’ll analyze the ingredients that make a memorable dance or glamor photograph, and you will learn how to relax and feel confident in front of the camera, maximizing your best facial features and projecting vibrant emotions. We’ll also touch on costuming, lighting, camera friendly make-up techniques and use of props before running through a number of belly dance and retro pin-up style poses.

There will then be a short break for participants to change into costume, followed by mini-photo sessions with a local photographer the awesome Shawn Doughtie and Kia Brown, while Princess Farhana personally coaches each participant through posing during their photo session.

Please bring a set of false eyelashes, your own make up and applicators, plus whatever costume and props you’d like to use in your photo session

Sunday 10am check in

10:30am - Sunday's workshops begin with:

Orient Noir: Volatile Combinations:

Add some dynamite to your dancing! These dangerous, and somewhat naughty combinations fuse the very best elements of traditional belly dance with hot Fosse-style jazz and some seriously sassy showgirl attitude. From fan kicks to floor work, from gooey to glamorous, we will concentrate on incendiary fusion moves great for almost any style of dancing. We’ll go over concepts for beautiful body lines, clean technique, intricate weight transfers plus level and speed changes that cause an audience to look twice, but never look away!

Then a lunch break - Noon - 1pm

1pm - 3pm - Followed by the afternoon workshop:

The Naughty Side of Little Egypt: Contrasting Belly Dance with Burlesque:

Though belly dancers often bristle at the comparison to burlesque artists, the history of the two dance genres are historically entwined in America. THIS IS NOT A FUSION WORKSHOP! This class will focus on the differences- and similarities- between Oriental dance and burlesque, and how both types of dance changed and influenced each other. Starting off with a bit of belly dance and burlesque history, we will move through technique, contrasting the movements of both genres, and explore how they affect each other today. **THIS CLASS IS PG RATED- NO Naughty Bit Required!!**

Mina of Dalloua

Mina has been a student of dance and theatre since childhood. She studied ballet in her early years and had her first love affair with ethnic dance while in extensive programs such as Bharatanatyam (Classical East Indian dance) with Katherine Kunhiraman and Katakali with K.P Kunhiraman. In 1994 she began her study in Middle Eastern Dance and has since become an award-winning performer.

Mina studied with reknowned middle eastern dance instructor Isvari, whom she calls her mentor. Isvari taught classical Egyptian as well as the Folkloric and Fusion styles of the art form. From Isvari, Mina developed a deep appreciation not only for the classical styles of Middle Eastern dance, but also for the many different styles that can be found throughout that region, such as Tunisian and Turkish, as well as African. You can see these influences throughout the style Mina portrays though her performances and those of her students.

Mina has studied percussion in order to deepen her connection to the music in her dance. Through this study, she learned to perform to and interpret live music — a true test of the art form which has allowed Mina to develop an impressive resume of performances with some of Northern California’s best percussionists.

Mina has competed in many different competitions as a solo dancer as well as with her Troupe Dalloua Dance Company. She has judged the  ”A Night in Casablanca” belly dance competition hosted by Sirens in Serenity.

Through her classical training and love of the dance, Mina has developed a unique style which combines these classical dance styles with a variety of modern theatrical styles. Her unique style and grace have charmed audiences throughout Northern California and can be seen performing though out the Bay area and Sacramento as well as from time to time out of the state. Please check the performance schedule for more information or contact her through Dalloua Dance Company.
