7pm-7:45pm July 25 at The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center 922 San Pedro Ave. This will be a traditional drill class that will break down some basic belly dance moves, and also introduce some Panza Fusion drills. Donations will go to sending the Zombie Bazaar troupe to compete and take workshops at Yaa Halla Yall to represent San Anto! This ticket is non refundable, but the name on the ticket can be changed. Platica con Silvia Salamanca: The history of the “Raza Cale” (Spanish Gypsy people) and the dance they developed.
8pm-10pm July 25 at The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center 922 San Pedro Ave. In this lecture we will explore the history of the migrations of the gypsy people that would arrive to Spain and be known as Gitanos nowadays, as well as the dance they created. We will submerge ourselves in the incredibly rich kingdom of Al-Andalus (mostly nowadays Andalucia region in Spain) where moors, jews, catholics and “gitanos” lived peacefully for over 800 years. Controversy, myth, legends, veridical information and many more input resources will be displayed for the student to understand how flamenco got created and why it has such a grasp on human emotions. This ticket is non refundable, but the name on the ticket can be changed. Just email the organizer.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of the spanish gypsy dance, the use of the skirt and the fan in it. We will proceed to build up steps into combinations that will complete a passionate routine…get ready to have fun and shout Ole! July 26 1PM-3:30PM at South West Workers Union 1416 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205 Spanish gypsy passion: Zambra Mora! (all levels) In this workshop, suitable for all levels, we will start breaking down the elements of the Zambra Mora (Spanish gypsy dance). Then we will learn a new routine designed to dance in couples like the “gitanas” do (Spanish gypsy women dance with each other…and they have fun!) The routine can also be learned to be a beautiful solo. No need to bring your own partner! Just your fiery spirit and a skirt, and be ready to feel proud, joyful and fiery!! Ole! Giomara Bazaldua of Zombie Bazaar

Zombie Bazaar Belly Dance is a Tribal Fusion group under the direction of Giomara Bazaldua, a longtime student of dance. "Gio" has a cutting edge style that fuses tribal belly dance with other genres from Ballet Folklorico to Jazz and Modern. It is this fusing of talent, creativity and homenaje a su cultura Xicana that led to the creation a duo called Zombie Bazaar in 2009 and eventually a troupe 11 womyn strong. These mujeres use eclectic and campy music to compliment their high energy and creepy theatrics. Each of the 11 bring their own espiritu y alma to the group which is evident in their dance style.

Always willing to volunteer for community causes, Zombie Bazaar’s activism most recently found them performing at Public Views not Private Brews, an action against the privatization of the historic Hay's Street Bridge in East San Antonio. In addition to luchando por la causa through movement, Zombie Bazaar have also become an important part of San Anto nightlife and art scene through their production, Danza Revolucion, a quarterly show which provides local artists the opportunity to perform in music venues. This gives the city and the dance community exposure to one another as well as providing an outlet for up and coming artistas.

This group of amigas, artistas, visionaries, singers, vegans,activist, sculptors, writers, lovers, and fighters call themselves Zombies to get your attention and once they have it they will keep you spellbound with their captivating dances and powerful message of strength and unity.

“We call ourselves Zombies because we love mother earth and it is the dead that enrich the soil to promote growth. We call ourselves Zombies because we will entrance your brain and senses with our hip and our message.”
