Girls Innovate! Mother-Daughter Hack Day

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2014, 12:30 - 4:00 PM

REDWOOD SHORES LIBRARY, REDWOOD CITY, CA

We’re excited to announce another Girls Innovate! Hack Day to support mothers and girls in gaining an idea of what it’s like to code!

We get together to learn App Inventor, using a modified curriculum developed by Technovation Challenge. Beginners and more advanced learners welcome!

If you’ve done the Technovation tutorials already, we have a couple new challenges for you to try – developed by youth mentors in our group. As you progress, we hope you will join the ranks of our youth mentors, who help new students learn App Inventor while developing their own skills.

If you already have some experience with programming, we’d love your help as a volunteer mentor! Please sign up as a Technical Mentor (teens more than welcome) if you can help out in any way.

Tutorials are self-paced and self-guided. Youth and adult mentors are available to assist, so don’t hesitate if you are new. If you attended our previous Hack Days, feel free to join us again to try out the remaining modules in the Technovation curriculum at your own pace.

Moms are welcome to come try, too!

This is a casual, small-scale event; space is limited to 10 mother-daughter pairs (father-daughters are welcome, too!). Advanced registration (and computer setup) are required.

About Girls Innovate!

We are a grassroots effort, founded in spring 2013, that seeks to impact the innovative capacity in women and girls.

Innovation is creative problem-solving that brings new possibilities to life (Tony Wagner, Creating Innovators). The innovative capacity is developed through a lifetime embrace of play, passion and purpose that begins at a young age with the help of mentors (from every environment – home, school, community, workplace, et al.).

We organize workshops and events to help girls explore the realms of creativity, entrepreneurship and visionary leadership that will enable them to one day define their own personal vision of impact and execute on it.
