As nonprofit organizations, we are expected to organize our work in order to effectively accomplish our mission. This requires that board, staff, volunteers, funders, and constituents understand what we do and how we do it. In this interactive session, participants map mission fulfillment in order to turn mission rhetoric into mission reality, clearly articulating the rationale behind the work, and the business model necessary to be sustainable. Begin building the strategic foundation the organization needs in order to be successful in today’s dynamic environment. Participants will leave with tools and strategies that can be used with management teams and boards to focus conversations and decision making on effective and sustainable mission fulfillment. Presenter Justin Pollock is principal and founder of Orgforward, a consulting agency working with nonprofit agencies and capacity builders to develop strategies that encourage organizational sustainability. His practice focuses on strengthening the connection between organizational leadership, programming, finance, and infrastructure and supporting organizational leaders with what they need to effectively govern and operate their organizations. Prior to launching Orgforward, Justin served as Chief Operating Officer for Maryland Nonprofits where he was responsible for the overall programming, finance, human resources, and membership activities of the organization. Justin has presented to hundreds of nonprofit and government agencies. He has trained boards, staff, and volunteers. His training topics range from small start-ups to large well-established businesses on topics of governance, financial management, strategic planning, supervision, leadership development, and organizational sustainability. He has more than 20 years of experience in the education and nonprofit fields with an extensive background in the areas of leadership development, organizational management, group process facilitation, curriculum development, teambuilding, and facilitator/trainer development. Justin holds a dual B.A. in Organizational Theory and Environmental Studies from Pitzer College and a M.Ed.in Curriculum and Teacher Education from Stanford University. Justin is a Standard for Excellence Licensed Consultant® through the national Standards for Excellence Institute and also serves as a master trainer for the Licensed Consultant Training program.
