Event Details

Georgia Tech’s Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) hosts its annual 2-day People & Technology Forum on November 12-13, 2012. Visionary speakers from industry, academia and the public sector will provide thought-provoking discussions, research demonstrations, and in-depth workshops to explore the disruptive role of technology and human-centered innovation in shaping the future of our society. Portions of the event will be open to the public, while others will be exclusive to IPaT’s research partners.

The Forum expands on our FutureMedia Fests, attended by over 1,500 people since 2009, to take a broader cross-domain view of the impact of technology and innovation on our lives.

AT&T Mobility President and CEO Ralph de la Vega is confirmed as our opening keynote speaker.

Panel Descriptions

Big Data Meets Social Media

This panel will address how social media supplements or confounds traditional information sources and practices in our increasingly complex world. What new opportunities or challenges are likely to emerge by marrying traditional data sources with social media in a broad set of areas, including customer service, advertising, marketing, brand affinity, or even homeland security? What are the best ways to successfully extract insight from a diverse, real-time and expanding "big data" universe?

Mobile Devices and Beyond

Mobile devices have changed the way we live, work, and play. Beyond simply faster/better/smaller devices, what breakthroughs will lead us into the next generation of connected life? Are wearable computing, connected cars and transportation systems, and wireless augmentation to humans possibilities in the not-too-distant future?

Civic Computing

This panel will address how technology can change the way we interact with people in our communities--from more engagement in our neighborhoods, facilitated interactions with government agencies, and stronger support for self-reliance in times of emergencies. How can our communities be healthier in every sense of the word? How can cities begin to become more self-aware?
