Genzo-e Retreat 2012

Saturday 3 pm orientation - Friday afternoon
with Rev. Shohaku Okumura

Genzo-e is a meditation and study retreat designed to allow for a deep investigation of the teachings of Dogen Zenji, the 13th-century founder of Soto Zen. This week-long retreat will be led by Rev. Shohaku Okumura, one of the world's foremost teachers on Dogen's practice and philosophy.

The text will be Shobogenzo "Yuibutsuyobutsu" ("Only a Buddha and A Buddha"). The text will be available soon.

Orientation for the retreat will be on Saturday afternoon, July 28, at 3:00 pm.

Rev. Okumura is the founding teacher of the Sanshin Zen Community, located in Bloomington, Indiana. For more information about Shohaku Okumura, please visit the website of Sanshin Zen Community.

Fees include accommodations and meals.

Registration deadline is Friday, July 6.

Sesshin means to collect the heart-mind. This traditional Soto Zen meditation retreat includes oryoki meals, daily Dharma talks, sitting and walking meditation, and private interviews with senior teachers.

San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC)

Established in 1962 by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and his American students, San Francisco Zen Center is a Soto Zen Buddhist community with three practice places in the SF Bay Area: City Center, an urban temple in the heart of San Francisco; Green Gulch Farm, in Marin County, where fertile fields meet the ocean; and Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, the first Zen training monastery in the West, in the Ventana Wilderness inland from Big Sur. At San Francisco Zen Center, zazen, study, and work practice are available to a diverse population of students, visitors, lay people, priests, and monks. All are welcome!
