Introduction to the LA Social Entrepreneur Community

Brent Freeman, Roozt

Saturday, March 23rd from 5:30 pm to 7 pm

Complimentary beer and wine will be served.

The term social entreprise is used quite frequently these days but what exactly does it mean? This free class introduces newcomers to the robust social entrepreneur startup scene in LA. You will learn what a social enterprise is, the key events/meetups you should be attending, the companies that should be on your radar, the VCs known to invest in socially responsible companies, and what blogs you should be reading to stay in the loop. After class you are encouraged to network with a number of prominent folks in the social entrepreneur ecosystem.

Brent Freeman is the Founder and CEO of Roozt, an online marketlace for brands that give back. Brent believes that the future is rooted in businesses that strive to make a difference, first and foremost. He also launched a program called Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) that teaches social entrepreneurship to low-income, at risk high school students. Prior to founding Roozt, Brent ran an international commodities import/export firm which although lucrative, was not sufficiently fulfilling. Brent graduated from USC with a BA in Communications.

General Assembly is a global network for entrepreneurs seeking opportunity and education in technology, business and design with campuses located in New York City, London, Berlin, San Francisco, Sydney, Boston and now...Los Angeles! General Assembly offers education in a myriad of ways -- from 90-minute classes like New Startup Business Models and half-day workshops on the tactics of fundraising to 10-week courses in front-end web development and user experience design. By providing designers, developers, entrepreneurs and complete beginners with the skills necessary to compete in a technology-driven workplace, GA is closing the gap between the unemployed and the thousands of open jobs and working to solve a generation-defining problem.
