Genealogy Research Using the Records of the Five Civilized Tribes for Librarians/Literacy staff/volunteers (1 Day)

The records of the Five Civilized Tribes are vast and contain valuable genealogical material.  Learn how to access and use these records to assist your genealogy researchers in locating their Native American ancestors.  Topics covered include a brief tribal history from removal to Oklahoma statehood, major rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes, supplementary records, online resources and depositories/collections.

Kathy Huber, a genealogy expert librarian with the Tulsa City County Library, will teach the class. There is no prerequisite for this class.

If your library or literacy organization is >60 miles away from ODL, a travel stipend of up to $115/night for overnight stay may be available. (Hotel Room Cost + $25 up to $115 total.)  Mileage also may be reimbursed at 30 cents/mile if you are paying for your own gas & cannot collect from your library/literacy organization. Stipend contracts will be made out to the library/literacy organization and it will be your responsibility to collect your reimbursement from such organization. No contracts will be written until the class has been attended and proof of overnight stay (if applicable) has been shown to the Office of Library Development.
