Gator Nation Education: UF-Duval Schools Partnership
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 6:00 PM (PST)
Reconnect with fellow Gators, enjoy complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres, and hear about some of the exciting things happening between Duval County and the University of Florida -“Gator Nation Education: UF & Duval Schools Partnership.”
The UF College of Education is committed to ongoing partnerships in the Duval County community that strengthen our research, enrich the student-educator experience and, most importantly, make the community a better place to live. In the true spirit of collaboration, UF’s College of Education makes a real and direct impact in Duval County that reaches far beyond the classroom, a prime example is our renowned Lastinger Center for Learning, founded by and named after Jacksonville residents Delores and Allen Lastinger. The Lastinger Center partners with 13 of Duval County’s most vulnerable public schools to develop Master Teachers through an innovative on-the-job graduate degree program. There’s also the Lastinger Apprenticeship for training career changers seeking to become elementary school teachers in Duval County schools. We are interested in continuing and expanding such collaborative programs between UF’s College of Education & Jacksonville’s schools & communities.
