You are cordially invited to a special Outreach/Club Meeting event on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m. (social to begin at 6:00pm) at Mudville Grille St. Nicholas, featuring Dr. Charles Nichols of The University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville.
The University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute in Jacksonville, Fla., is a cancer treatment facility that uses the most advanced technology available to treat and cure cancer. Proton therapy delivers a precise radiation treatment while destroying cancer cells and minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
UF Proton Therapy Institute is the only proton therapy center in the southeast United States and only one of 10 nationwide. UF Proton Therapy Institute is affiliated with the UF College of Medicine, a national leader in cancer treatment and research. A team of radiation oncologists, physicists, engineers and computer scientists, all faculty members at UF, delivers state-of-the-art cancer treatment and strives to set new standards for treating and curing the disease.
Dr. Nichols has been a radiation oncologist for more than 15 years. Dr. Nichols specializes in treating cancers of the lung and prostate. Prior to joining the UF Proton Therapy Institute, he served as medical director of Bay Medical Regional Cancer Center, Panama City, Fla. Author or co-author of more than 25 peer reviewed publications and meeting presentations, his work has appeared in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics. A University of Florida Department of Radiation Oncology assistant professor since 2008, he serves as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) Principal Investigator for both the Jacksonville and Gainesville campuses.
