Equine assisted learning (EAL) is a non-traditional, experiential, solution oriented learning experience. By examining human behavior and equine behavior- we can learn effective strategies to improve human relationships. This is a two hour activity on Saturday, dress comfortably- no sandals or open-toed shoes. For questions, call Vicki 3613671445.

The Gathering of Texas Midwives

Sustaining Wisdom, Body and Spirit


Continuing the 10 year legacy of "the gathering", midwives and students from Texas and the surrounding regions will come together in the ideal setting of Lazy Hills Ranch,

not to "retreat", but to "FORWARD". 

A weekend full of reflection, sharing, inspiration and mobilization- flexibly designed to meet individualized needs for rest, socialization and education.

$50 Registration includes:

Hiking, kayaking, meditation and yoga

Friday Dinner, Continental Breakfast Saturday and Sunday, Lunch and Dinner Saturday.

11 hours of interprofessional education (ATM CEU approved, ACNM speciality CEU applied for)

Topics include:

  • Sustaining midwifery and maintaining transformation
  • Transformative moments- career altering experiences: fueling, releasing, forgiveness and healing.
  • Sustaining Midwives: Self health and wellness assessment and action
  • Sustaining Environments: Systems Stabilizers (Orgnizational health, inteprofessional collaboration and transfers of care)
  • Nurturing our young: how to select and nurture students for professional self-maintenance
  • Shared Decision Making: Begining of life care, questioning our assumptions.
    • primary care update- obesity in primary care, post-bariatric antenatal clients, genetic screening
  • Global Midwifery: Listen First
  • Sticks in a bundle are unbreakable: CPM and CNM collaboration nationally and in Texas, Legislative and programatic updates

ACCOMODATIONS ARE NOT included in the price of registration.


All registrants can bring food/beverage- there is plenty of space to store things that you want to eat,drink or share.


There are two options for accomodations.  Details will be on your confirmation page/ticket AFTER your register.  As a general sumary:

(1) Organize with a group of friend collegues to rent a room or ranch house.  Reserve the room or ranch house by calling Vikki at 830 367 1445.  The ranch will accept ONE credit card per room or ranch house and will not split fees.  Roommates must coordinate room sharing. Prices range from $95/room/night (sleeps 4), to $550/room/night (sleeps 16).  This option is first come first serve and space is limited. 


(2) Rent a BED in a "pot luck" room.  Using an invitation link that is on your registration conformation, you can reserve a bed in a shared room.  Using this option there is no way to control who your roommate is.  Prices range from $25/night/bed to $35/nigh/bed.  Space is limited.  Reserve early.
