Event Details

N4P is hosting another combined Career Progress, Comm Tech 4 Progress and Act 4 Progress event with a "Furloughed" Progress Office Hours: Co-Working & Co-Organizing Day for Progressives, Democrats, Hope Mongers and Civic Leaders at the MLK Library's Digital Commons (Conference Room #5) in Chinatown!

Furloughed Government Workers, Job Seekers, Entrepreneurs, Freelancers, Organizers and Volunteers are all welcome to get out of their pajamas at home or take a break from their latte addiction at Starbucks to join us....just RSVP in advance if possible so we can forward updates.

If you want to get involved in the political/civic grassroots or professional scene OR connect with others who do, then stop by and we will plug you into various opportunities you can work on immediately....and crowdsource new ones.

Digital Commons

As you may know, the new "Digital Commons" (http://www.dclibrary.org/digitalcommons) will soon become home to a Dream Lab coworking community and is a great space for using free computers and wifi-enabled meeting rooms. So, feel free to come by with a charged laptop or smart phone...and even if you don't!

At 2pm and 6pm, we will do a Resume Swap and Career Discussion (optional) with anyone interested in improving their job search.

At 7pm, we will break for a Planning Meeting (optional) to discuss our ideas for Network For Progress (Generation Obama 2.0) and Progress Office, including advocacy for the Shutdown / Obamacare fight and Virginia Gubernatorial Election as well events such as meetups and fundraisers like our annual date auction in October! Movement-building initiatives include Community (Events, Outreach), Engagement (Communications, Technology), Development (Careers, Organizing, Leadership) & Action (Campaign, Advocacy, Service).

There is plenty of space in Digital Commons so these sessions will be separate from anyone co-working or co-organizing on their own.

PARTNERS WANTED: Do you have an organization that could use a place to meet OR would want to collaborate with other groups OR that would be willing to sponsor us with resources ranging from laptops to snacks? Email Jim @ network4progress@gmail.com.

Network For Progress

As of February 10, 2011, the fourth anniversary of the Obama For America campaign, Network For Progress will serve as an interactive and creative online/offline political, civic, professional and personally-enriching Community, Advocate & Resource for the lessons of the "Yes We Can" Movement of Hope and Change to expand on the work of Organizing For America with the Mainstream Majority of Americans (including Democrats, Progressives, Independents, Republicans and those in between comprising young people and many other under-served constituencies) that voted for President Obama in 2008.

Network For Progress will promote the use of 21st Century “bottom up” Communication, Outreach & Leadership/Development grassroots-organizing techniques for an honest dialogue to create the necessary Personal Relationships & Viral Buzz to build a Movement that is continually being revolutionized by the growth of Google, Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other networking tools but was under-utilized after Inauguration Day when the social, social media & Media vacuum of public discourse was filled by Tea Party/Fox News’ coordinated activism and only recently has been valiantly promoted by Jon Stewart’s quest for “Sanity.”

Network For Progress will provide a platform for supporters to become OUR own “Obama” who is empowered to bring PROGRESS to our professional and personal lives as well as our town, our state, our nation and our world.

“Network For Hope.  Network For Change.  Network For PROGRESS.”
