Companion Animal Alliance
Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) was founded in October 2010 to implement the No Kill BR initiative,a community initiative started in 2009 by animal advocates and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation to save healthy and treatable pets entering the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Shelter. The kill rate at our city’s shelter had been historically high, 80% or more of the roughly 11,000 animals that entered annually were killed.
In November, 2013,Companion Animal Alliance (CAA) along with other animal rescue organizations, entered into an agreement with TargetZero Institute (TZI) of Jacksonville, Florida.TZI selected Baton Rouge for a three-year grant initiative to provide extensive support to decrease the euthanasia rate.TZI will offer extensive training and direct technical assistance in program design and implementation, fundraising and revenue generation, effective partnership-building, board development, government affairs and fiscal management. Baton Rouge is the third city in the nation to be selected for the Target Zero Initiative. The technical assistance providedis estimated to be worth about $400,000.
There are many dynamics to aNo Kill Community, one of which is rescue. CAA partners with ProjectPurr, YelpBR and other rescue groups to save animals and place them in their forever homes.
