The National Alliance on Mental Illness Westside Los Angeles (NAMI) is holding a fundraiser at the popular indoor cycling studio, SoulCycle. At SoulCycle, riders strive to change not only physically, but emotionally and mentally too. The endorphin rushes that riders receive during rides are unforgettable. NAMI provides free support groups and education classes for people who struggle with mental illness, as well as connect the consumers to free housing, therapy, and conservatorships. What makes NAMI so unique from other non-profits that help people that struggle with mental illness is that they also provide free education courses and support groups for family members and loved ones of people who are affected by mental illness, while most non-profits only help the consumer bring their lives back together, rather than helping the whole family unit reconnect and become one again. Many families are on the brink of collapse due to the hardships of having a loved one that is suffering from mental illness, but with NAMI’s help, are able to mend their lives back together. Most people are not aware that 1 in 4 Americans have a brain disorder of some sort.
There is no difference between mental illness and a physical illness. Both tear families apart.
