Fundamentals of Photography: Sports and Action

Don’t miss your shot. Learn to capture subjects in motion. This class will help you understand action photography. Whether you want to shoot sports, wildlife or your kids on a trampoline this class will show you how to use shutter speed, focusing and camera controls to get the best results. Michael will demonstrate how to freeze action, how to pan with action and how to blur action. During the hands-on demo, students will gain the experience of shooting these concepts as we explore the different camera controls including how to choose the appropriate focus mode. This 3-hour hands-on photo class is part of the series “Fundamental Photography”, and will teach you the building blocks of photography.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Michael Nadler is a graduate of California State University Fullerton with a degree in Communication/ Photojournalism. After several years of photojournalism, Michael entered the more lucrative area of Photographic Retail Management. After 15 year as everything from Sales to Buyer, Advertising Exec, to Digital Specialty innovator, he was asked by Canon to take up the new challenge of digital imaging. Embracing the challenge, he put forth his full efforts. Beginning with the Canon DCS-1, Michael has since become an advisor to companies such as Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, Getty, Corbus, Warner Bros., ABC/Disney, Paramount, CBS, NBC, NANPA, PPA, PPC, WPPI, Upperdeck, AAED, ADA, CDA, News Services, and many, many others bringing them into the Digital Age. His knowledge of digital imaging and processes as well of his mastery of Canon has set him apart in the photographic community. For 15 years Michael has educated and inspired photographers from around the globe. This new chapter for him is to help inspire the future generations of photographers.
Attendees should have a good understanding of F-Stop, Shutter Speed, ISO, and be able to operate their camera in manual mode Students should also understand basic composition (rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, etc.) and how to control depth of field.

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your DSLR camera (no point and shoot cameras) with lens, user manual (can be downloaded from the manufacturer) and your questions to class. Most of all, bring your enthusiasm and eagerness to master your camera! This class is the first step to realizing your vision with photography!
PARKING and LOCATION:
Los Angeles - Limited parking is available at Samy’s Camera Store parking lot: 431 S. Fairfax Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90036 (entrance is on Drexel Ave.)
When you arrive please do the following:
- Pull all the way up to the wall or park behind someone and make sure to park within the lines. A parking attendant is usually on duty to help you. Space is limited and tandem parking is necessary so everyone is able to park free of charge. If you are unwilling to tandem park, please find parking elsewhere.
- Please do not block spaces by parking far from the wall or double parking. (Spaces for larger vehicles are on the left as you enter.)
Samy’s EDU classrooms are located at 475 S. Fairfax Ave. (4th building south of the store on the same side of the street.)
REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS:
Our goal is to provide a fun and professional learning environment that fosters a positive experience and builds a strong relationship with Samy's Camera customers. Unless otherwise noted, all classes require advance registration due to limited seating and/or availability.
Samy's EDU makes the decision to run a class based on the attendance level 48 hours prior to the class. Because of this, we can only offer a refund if you notify us by sending an email to EDU@Samys.com 48 hours before your class. If you fail to provide email notification or if you cancel less than 48 hours prior to the class all monies will be forfeit and you will not receive a refund.
On occasion we may cancel a class because of low enrollment and/or unforeseen professional conflict on the part of the instructor. Should this be the case, all monies will be refunded in full. We do not take responsibility for non-refundable airline tickets, so please buy a refundable ticket if you are coming from outside of Los Angeles.
