Synopsis: Wes Anderson’s debut feature
and first writing collaboration with Owen Wilson is an absurdist caper that stars the Wilson brothers as a pair of pathetic attempted robbers. Martin Scorsese wrote admiringly that “the movie really took me by surprise. Here was a picture without a trace of cynicism, that obviously grew out of its director’s affection for his characters in particular and for people in general. A rarity.” Bottle Rocket was originally created as a short film; expanded to feature length, it was picked up for distribution by Columbia Pictures, launching Anderson’s career as one of the most original voices in American cinema.

Filmmaker bio: Wes Anderson’s films may seem whimsical—like fancifully designed supertoys. But within the colorful, beautifully realized worlds that Anderson creates on screen, there is surprising
depth and emotional resonance. His films include RushmoreThe Royal TenenbaumsThe Darjeeling LimitedThe Life Aquatic with Steve ZissouFantastic Mr. Fox, and Moonrise Kingdom.
