Floyd, Skeren & Kelly is pleased to announce its 3rd Annual Employment Law Conference, with keynote speaker, Phyllis W. Cheng, Director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH).  This conference, which is designed for employers, supervisors, managers, claims adjusters, risk managers, and any other professionals associated with human resources and employment law, will provide the latest cases, most recent legislation, and helpful practical guidance on key workplace topics. Highlights of the presentations are provided below (for more details see "Agenda"):

  • A Review of the New Disability Regulations: obtain a comprehensive review of California's new disability regulations including details on the expanded definition of "disability"; new guidelines on offering a reasonable accommodation and conducting the interactive process; new procedures for obtaining medical certification of an employee's need for an accommodation; and, an analysis of the recent and significant California Supreme Court decision in Harris v. City of Santa Monica on "mixed motive" discrimination cases;
  • An Overview of Key OSHA Requirements: receive up-to-date information and helpful tips on OSHA compliance, including a review of key requirements, standards, and regulations, information on recordkeeping and necessary OSHA forms, in addition to helpful guidance on responding to an OSHA citation; 
  • A Workers' Compensation Case Law and Legislative Update, Including the Latest on SB 863: learn about the latest case law and legislation impacting injured workers, including the most recent developments on the new reform bill SB863, that can help employers control workers' compensation costs. In addition, receive helpful tips on preventing, detecting and responding to suspected workers' compensation fraud;
  • Important Guidance on Avoiding Costly Employment Related Lawsuits:receive critical guidance on 10 key steps an employer can take to stay out of court and avoid costly, time consuming and potentially devastating employment related lawsuits;
  • An Analysis of the New Pregnancy Disability Regulations: gain important information about the new and comprehensive pregnancy disability regulations, which expand the protections for employees disabled by pregnancy;  
  • An Update on the Evolving Role of Social Media in the Workplace: obtain an overview of the evolving role of social media in the    workplace, including discussion about social media and hiring practices, social media and workplace investigations, the privacy and ethical pitfalls of using    employee information obtained from social media sites, and the latest NLRB guidance on social media and the workplace.
