San Francisco, CA
A live documentary telling the story of a 20 year effort to overcome political, financial, environmental, engineering, and construction challenges never before faced by any project of its size. It is the dramatic, emotional story of engineers and bridge designers who revolutionized bridge building, thousands of workers who risked their lives, and the community leaders who saw the benefits of a bridge, led by a visionary with a desire for a monumental achievement of a lifetime.
"From Vision to Icon: Building the Golden Gate Bridge" is narrated live, and supported by more than 120 historic photos. The unique presentation style has been compared to the "American Experience" documentaries on PBS. The story is based on the books "The Gate" by John Van Der Zee and "Spanning the Gate," by Stephen Cassidy.
Writer, Producer and Narrator Peter Moylan was selected as an Education Partner and member of the Speaker’s Bureau for the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary celebrations sponsored by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. Moylan also offers walking tours of San Francisco history (www.sfwalksandtalks.com).
