A Health in Your House (HIYH) Production
FROM THE A2 THE BAY:
A traveling community-oriented Social Event
Sponsored in part by The Walker Exchange, LLC
Purpose and Description:
To teach, educate, and inspire people to maintain a healthy lifestyle no matter their geographical location or available financial resources. This event will span a week's time of travel from Atlanta, GA (The A) to Oakland, CA (The Bay). A collective of individuals and organizations will take this journey and stop in urban and rural areas along the way in search of people and places that illustrate the principles of natural, organic, healthy, and eco-aware lifestyles. This is all done with the soul-connecting, lively, and passionate rhythms of house music in the background, a genre of music that has helped bring this collective together as well as those around the world in the spirit of health and heart.
This is an open invitation event! Any and everyone is welcome to show up and show us how your “neck of the woods” creates or participates in healthy, organic, and eco-aware living.
What's going to happen?
As the collective travels from the A2 the Bay, they will live stream events, cooking shows, conversations, and gather footage for a health documentary showcasing the theme, "Reconnecting with our earth, health and community through house music." A2 the Bay's will provide live streaming on partners' websites and social media pages educating the community on the importance of eating from sources such as local farmers, how to include fresh foods, quick healthy eating tips, fitness demos and reconnecting with the earth.
We will visit:
Health food stores
Side Markets that offer farm fresh foods
CSA and other Community Gardens
And folks' homes who are gracious enough to welcome 4 strangers and a dog into their home overnight.
Connect to Your Health and Hear the Rhythms of the Land:
Farms to Grow (FTG) to show the soon to be released “Rhythms of the Land.” Rhythms of the Land is a documentary film project, a valentine to generations of black farmers whose intense love of the land and dedication to community enabled them to survive against overwhelming odds. This documentary shows how farming is directly linked to our health and how many have sustained and are returning to this most natural way of life. The filmmaker, Gail Myers, is a cultural anthropologist and a scholarly expert in African American farming traditions who has been conducting field research and interviews with black farmers since 1997. But more importantly, she's the niece of her irascible 100-year-old Aunt Rose, whose stories about growing up on the Alabama farm presided over by Gail's great-great-grandfather, Hezekiah Patterson, provided the seeds of inspiration for “Rhythms of the Land.” Gail Myers has captured the spirit and essence of various farmers across the US. As we stop along the way, we will drop trailers and club mixes of "Rhythms of the Land," in hopes of bringing awareness to this inspiring film.
