How Cross-Sector Leadership is Building Extension's Public Value
Friday, October 18, 2013
102 Appleby Hall, East Bank UMN
Presenter: Laura Kalambokidis, Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota, a University of Minnesota Extension Economist and Minnesota State Economist
Laura Kalambokidis teaches public finance and does research on federal and state tax policy. Dr. Kalambokidis developed the Building Extension’s Public Value Workshop in 2002 to help University of Minnesota Extension faculty advocate for their programs. She has since taught the workshop for Extension organizations in eighteen states.
In many states, Cooperative Extension builds a public funding case by emphasizing their programs’ public value, rather than the private benefits to program participants. In a case study of University of Minnesota Extension Community Leadership Development Programs (CLDPs), we show how program evaluation can provide evidence of a program’s public-value level impacts.
