Event Details

Everyone has a legal right to see information from Scottish public authorities. You don't have to say who you are or why you want the information. And if the public authority refuses to give it to you, they must tell you why, and the Information Commissioner can overrule them.

But how does Freedom of Information legislation work? How can you craft a request for information so it's most likely to be answered?

What can you do if your request is turned down? How can you make FOI work best for you, your clients or the people you serve?

At this evening seminar, you can hear from a leading environmental Journalist about what FOI is and how it works, in Scotland and abroad, and how you can best use information from FOIs in your work.

WHERE: The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, 15 South College Street, 6:15pm for 6:30pm start.

The evening will have three speakers and a relaxed Q+A session with drinks. We'll follow that up with both a space in a pub and a large table at Mother India Cafe for those who want to sit down for some food.
We are running this event for anyone with an interest in using FOI - whether a student, academic, journalist, public sector, third sector or member of the media.
At the moment we are aiming to cover our costs by asking for a donation. A voluntary donation of £5 from each attendee would allow us to ensure that we can continue providing interesting events.

This event is being run by Peter Geoghegan and Alex Robertson mainly because they want to bring interesting speakers, knowledge and ideas to anyone who wants it, as cheaply as possible! We firmly believe that open knowledge sharing and public, accessable forums can help make the world a more sustainable, better place.
It is generously being supported by the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation

FED - Ideas worth sustaining

FED was set up by Alex Robertson and Peter Geoghegan in order to address the fact that often conferences and seminars just cost too darn much. We wanted to share interesting speakers at a minimum cost to anyone that wanted to attend!
