"What Are You Selling?"

One of the hardest concepts for an actor to wrap their head around is the fact that they are a product to sell.
All those acting classes prepare the actor with emotional, technical and creative tools to be the best, most versatile artist they can be. When faced with the real world of auditioning, it can be a shock to hear the Casting Director referred to as “the buyer” and the Agent as “the seller.” But, the bottom line is, an actor who is trying to get their foot in the door needs to narrow their focus and figure out what they do best, what their strength is. Is it comedy or drama? Are you a character actor or a leading actor? Your Agent needs to “pitch” you to the Casting Director and they need your headshot and reel to look like the brand they are selling.
Join Holly Powell (from Holly Powell Studios http://www.hollypowellstudios.com) and Retta Putignano (from Create Your Reel http://www.createyourreel.com) for answers to all your questions about how to get specific on what you’re selling in your acting career and on your demo reel. The demo reel is one of the most important tools an actor has in their arsenal, showing what the actor is selling in three minutes flat. Learn the difference between what the industry needs and what actors believe is necessary in a reel. We’ll also watch examples that show an actor’s range and go through the steps as to how they arrived at their chosen roles.
Know what you’re selling!
