What started as a widely acclaimed book written by Pulitzer prize-winning journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn has spawned a movement to ignite the change needed to put an end to the oppression of women and girls worldwide. They have teamed up with documentary filmmaker Maro Chermayeff to produce this groundbreaking look at the issues facing women worldwide.
Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide was filmed in 10 countries and follows Kristof, WuDunn, and celebrity activists America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union, and Olivia Wilde on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous individuals.
The film airs on PBS in two parts on Oct. 1 and 2nd at 9PM.
