Free Training for Parents, Teachers and Others Interested
in the Following Topics

  • Is your child or student being restrained or secluded for challenging behaviors?
  • Are these procedures consistent with district policy?
  • What other options exist?
  • How do I make sure my child’s IEP is being followed?
  • What are Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and how can they help?
  • What is a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)? What is a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)?

This free training provides parents and teachers with practical information that leads to the reduction of the use of restraint and seclusion and/or removal of a student with challenging behavior from the education environment. The morning session will be presented by Cathleen Dooley, Staff Attorney, and Renaldo Fowler, Senior Staff Advocate, from the Arizona Center for Disability Law. The afternoon session will be conducted by Daniel Davidson, PhD, BCBA-D, from the Institute for Human Development, Northern Arizona University.

The morning session provides parents and teachers with an overview of state and federal laws relating to students with special needs. This session focuses on evaluation procedures; Individual Education Program development; implementation and compliance; and discipline.

The afternoon session offers in-depth information on the use of positive behavior supports that can prevent restraint and seclusion and addresses challenging behavior in the educational environment.
